ABSTRACT
Table 4.1 lists the tensile strengths of thin films for several
metals and ceramics. Thin films made of pure metal tend to show
macroscopically brittle fracture without large elongation, unlike
their bulk counterparts. This trend becomes clearer in thinner films.
