ABSTRACT

Electrospun biodegradable micro-/nanopolyester fibers have at tracted increasing interest for the designing of site-specific con trolled drug delivery system in the body. Currently, different types o f drugs, hydrophobic or hydrophilic drugs, growth factors, or genes have been entrapped within the interior or physically immobilized on the surfaces of these fibers by versatile drug encapsulation m eth ods, including blending, coaxial process, emulsion, and surface modification. The advance in creating drug-loaded micro-/nanofib-

ers have made them applicable in numerous clinical applications, including wound dressing, cancer therapy, adhesion barrier, as well as regeneration of human soft and hard tissues. This book chapter reviews micro-/nanofibers associated with different drugs and their clinical applications.
