ABSTRACT

Biodegradable polymers are essential components of drug delivery systems as they may provide many opportunities to improve the therapeutic efficacy of bioactive molecules for tissue engineering and health care applications. Polycaprolactone (PCL) is one o f the m ost used and interesting polymer for drug delivery. This is because PCL is highly biocompatible with cells and biological tissues and can be processed into appropriate forms for drug delivery purposes. The main aim of this chapter is to provide the reader with an overview of the drug delivery application of PCL as well as its blends and composites. The use of different PCL formulations, namely blends and composites, nano-and microparticles, fibers, and porous scaffolds, in tissue engineering and drug delivery are described.
