ABSTRACT

Nowadays, the enzymatically synthesized polyesters (ESPs) have becom e a promising type of environment-friendly biomaterials, mainly because they exhibit highly efficient syntheses, excellent biocompatibility and biodegradability, and adjustable chemical reaction activities and physical properties. ESPs have been widely applied in various biomedical fields, including drug delivery, gene transfection, tissue engineering, and so forth. In this chapter, the main preparation strategies of the ESPs are summarized, the applications in the field of drug delivery are highlighted, and the prospects of future developments are discussed.
