ABSTRACT

There is also difficulty controlling illegal entry of pesticides into the Philippines, the volume and extent of which is undocumented. These pesticides are used by farmers without proper labeling and sometimes the instructions are not in readable or understandable language except for the percentage a.i. A number of pesticides are known to be used in fishing activities and aquaculture but the extent of their usage remains undocumented because no one will acknowledge their use. This inability to control the misuse of pesticides is expected to result in residues of misused pesticides reaching foodstuffs and environmental compartments. It is fortunate that under tropical conditions, pesticide degradation and dissipation is faster due to intense sunlight, relatively high temperatures, high rainfall, active microorganisms, etc. However, most of these same factors allow pest species to multiply rapidly and continually, resulting in pests in all different stages of development, e.g. egg, larvae or nymph, pupae, and adult. This situation necessitates frequent pesticide applications.
