ABSTRACT

Agriculture has faced many challenges in recent years as humanity is dependent on agriculture and water for existence. The need for monitoring and remote control in agriculture increases day by day. This chapter focuses on the small amount of research that has been done on the application of wireless sensor networks (WSNs) for agriculture. Moreover, use of WSN technology along with modern irrigation techniques like drip irrigation and measurement of various physical parameters is discussed. A simulation of an agriculture field is also presented using the QualNet network simulator to present realistic results of performance parameters.
