ABSTRACT

About 50 percent of Kentucky’s landscape is karst terrane. The state’s regulatory programs recognize the importance of understanding the movement of karst groundwater for effective implementation of groundwater protection programs and groundwater pollution remediation. Many federal and state regulations and guidance documents address groundwater and are modified and implemented in Kentucky to address groundwater management in karst terranes. Karst and karst hydrology are directly addressed in a limited number of existing statutes and regulations in Kentucky.
