ABSTRACT

During the late Panafrican subvolcanic dykes intruded I-type granitoid rocks in the Bir Safsaf area, Western Desert, S-Egypt. Dyke composition range from basaltic to rhyolitic and most of them show calc-alkaline affinities, but tholeiitic basalts occur also. Mineralogical and textural phenomena in basaltic andesite to dacite dykes show evidence of repeated magma mixing. Geochemical and isotope data confirm a model of magma genesis by RTF-processes at a continental margin.
