ABSTRACT

The Selective Laser Melting (SLM) is a layer by layer Direct Manufacturing Laser Assisted technology that enables the fabrication of 3D complex geometry parts directly from their CAD model. The interest of using SLM technology is the possibility to manufacture new kinds of products of high added value that cannot be obtained by existing traditional processes (Wohlers et al. 2009). Currently, the fabrication of jewelry or design objects, crowns, bridges, etc. for biomedical application is well used. Potentially this technology can be applied for a serial production of dies for tooling, parts for automotive, aerospace industry etc. For the moment the process is suitable for low volume production and the choice of powder materials is still limited (Santosa et al. 2006, Dai & Shaw 2006).
