The influence of the shape of the domain on the deformation behaviour of linear elastic bodies is of great importance in form optimization and fracture mechanics:
• The numerical solution of shape optimization problems by Newton type or steepest descent algorithms requires the knowledge of the Gâteaux derivative of corresponding cost and objective functionals with respect to a variation of the boundary.
