ABSTRACT

Children who have undergone surgery for Hirschsprung disease, anorectal malformations, and sacrococcygeal teratomas or who have severe medically refractive functional constipation or spine or spinal cord abnormalities may suffer from fecal incontinence or constipation. An individualized and comprehensive bowel management program (BMP) is often required in order to keep the patient clean and in normal underwear. The goal of the program is to find a regimen that achieves social continence and allows the patient to resume daily activities, and get into normal underwear.
