ABSTRACT

In evaluating pavement surface safety characteristics, especially for expressways, pavement texture depth is an important factor. This paper correlates high-volume texture-depth data with the Sideway-Force Coefficient (SFC) to support pavement maintenance decisions. High-volume texture-depth data demonstrate the distribution pattern of texture depth. Through applying the time–space conversion method, the texture-depth deterioration is modeled over road service time, and a texture-depth prediction model is established. Based on the correlation with Sideway-Force Coefficient (SFC) data, the texture-depth criteria for pavement safety are utilized to support decision making in the expressway network maintenance plan.
