ABSTRACT

In this study, Fluid-Structure Interaction (FSI) analysis is used for evaluating collision phenomena of subsea cable protector under actual underwater conditions. In order to verify the accuracy of the FSI analysis method applied in this study, numerical simulation was carried out under the same conditions as the underwater drop test of bearing steel ball performed in the previous study and the results were compared. Collision simulations were carried out using the proven FSI analysis method. The type of subsea cable protector and the hazard apparatus considered in the underwater collision simulation were type A-duct and stock anchor. The simulation results of underwater collision based on the FSI analysis were compared to land condition case. The collision situation for the land condition was implemented by the terminal drop velocity of stock anchor with drag effect. In the land condition case, the fixed boundary condition on the lower surface part of subsea cable protector was used.
