ABSTRACT

Aquaculture is the important sector, which provides nutritional security and employment. Disease outbreak is one of the major constraints to the socio-economic development in many countries. The management of healthy fishes and controlling infection leads to the development of drugs. Wide usage of antimicrobial drugs leads to the accumulation of resistant strain in the fish bodies and negative impact on the environment. Several alternative methods have been developed in order to overcome the negative impact of drug usage. Biological control strategies have been developed with less impact on humans and environment, which helps in the reduction of disease. Recently, increasing attention is made on the use of essential oil nanoemulsion as an alternative to existing antimicrobial agents for controlling infections. The oil phase of nanoemulsion consists of essential oil with active ingredients, which is responsible for all biological activities. This article mainly aims to give an overview about the development of alternative method to control the pathogenic infection and their application in aquaculture.
