ABSTRACT

The chapter outlines the divergence of resilience and post-traumatic growth, as these two constructs have conceptual confusion and ostensible overlapping. The chapter presents the meaning of trauma, post-traumatic reactions, and the potency of post-traumatic growth. It also explains the biopsychosocial outcomes of post-traumatic growth. The content of the chapter focuses on the cultural meanings attached to post-traumatic growth, religious coping for the development and fostering of post-traumatic growth, and post-traumatic growth as an outcome as well as an ongoing positive transformation process. The chapter not only draws attention on post-traumatic growth as an approach to trauma treatment and care, but also paves a pathway for preparing the person for post-traumatic growth as a “life-changing” psychological shift toward well-being.
