ABSTRACT

A Participation of pharmacists in clinical research has been a natural step in the evolution and development of clinical pharmacy as a discipline. This growing number of clinical pharmacists has assumed significant clinical research responsibilities. While many clinical pharmacists have developed clinical research skills on their own through collaboration with other investigators, specific research training programs have been developed during the past few years. D The participation of clinical pharmacists in clinical research is only in its beginning phase. In all these settings, clinical research will increasingly involve the participation of clinical pharmacists. One objective source of information concerning clinical research conducted by clinical pharmacists is an analysis of abstracts presented at annual meetings of the American College of Clinical Pharmacy. The clinical research of investigational drugs is a complicated process that requires sound clinical and pharmacological judgment, a solid grounding in medical ethics, and a good understanding of government regulations, economics, marketing, and organizational management.
