ABSTRACT

The Kaigan Line of Kobe Municipal Subway connects Shin-Nagata and San-nomiya over a length of about 8 km. In the Shin-Nagata work section, construction of a “double-O-tube” shield tunnel (Samata et al. 1996, a) was planned. For the double-O-tube shield tunnel with an unprecedented connection between the ductile cast iron central column and the “kamome-gata” (seagull-shaped) segment, no records were available or no design method had been established. In order to verify the seismic resistance of the structure, therefore, a horizontal loading test was carried out on the connection between the central column and the “kamome-gata” segment, using full-scale segments. The test identified the horizontal deformation capacity and stress of the central column, cracking of “kamome-gata” segment, and the behavior and rotating spring constant of the connection between the central column and “kamome-gata” segment.
