ABSTRACT

Reliability analysis of geotechnical engineering is not completly the same as the analysis of structural engineering. For geotechnical. correlation between soil parameters have to be in considering. However, in JC method which is often used in structure analysis, random variables are always to be assumed independent each other. So, such JC method should be modified in order to meet the needs of geotechnical engineering.

Based on the above, in this paper, the modified method, (MJC), is developed. In which the cross —correlation between parameters is considered. The main formulas of this modified method are derived and the relevant program is also given.

Finally, a reliability analysis for a geotechnical project is performed as an example. It shows the influence of cross —correlation on reliability index β is rather considerable. Some comparison between JC and MJC are listed in the paper.
