ABSTRACT
A mechanical model for complex initial geostress is put forward, which does not necessarily follow the well-known rule. The complex initial geostress can be back analyzed by determining boundary nodal forces owing to tectonic stress. The formulas to back-analyze the above initial geostress in linear elastic material with Finite Element Method are deduced, and the corresponding calculation procedure outlined, followed by an example.
