ABSTRACT

The use of digital technology in healthcare sectors is playing an influential role in both patients’ and doctors’ lives in terms of costs of care, time-management, timely treatments, easy access to doctors, and so on. In this digital era, the mere presence of a mobile phone can largely help healthcare workers in that patients are capable of managing their own health. These apps provide easy access to quality healthcare services and for that, user’s personal sensitive information is collected, stored, and shared. Hence, we can say that mobile health (mhealth) apps have become a part of day-to-day life for many people for monitoring and tracking their chronic health conditions. In this chapter, we examine whether mhealth apps ensure the security, privacy, and safety of the health data through which an informed decision can be made and a secure outcome can be obtained. The specific aim of this chapter is to analyze the impact of the growing use of healthcare apps on health and the computer science field.
