ABSTRACT

Since the 1960s, Western academic circles have discussed “literary canon” and “literary canonization.” This paper first describes the meaning and standard of literary canon, and then discusses the canonization methods and characteristics in the Occident by taking the canonization process of Shakespeare and Thoreau as examples and explores the enlightenment of Western literary canonization theory for Chinese literature canonization studies. It is possible to break the Western centralism concept in the process of canon composition and realize the canon reconstruction of cross-cultural boundaries by drawing on Bloom’s revisionist theory.
