ABSTRACT

Energy and analytics are the next wave of technology evolution across industry. The term “big data” has received a huge amount of press, but these vast amounts of information are more the problem statement. Electricity has been an essential energy source for over 100 years, but in the 21st century the dynamics associated with this business will demand analytics. Owners will be able to keep the lights on without this technology, but they will be leaving money on the table—perhaps large amounts of money. The new rule mandates a 30 percent reduction in carbon dioxide emissions from these power plants by 2030. Each state was given customized goals, based upon local conditions, and the Obama Administration gave states until 2017 to develop local plans to meet those limits. In the original announcement, McCarthy highlighted local success stories in cities like Salt Lake City and St. Paul, Minnesota, which the agency hopes to see replicated across the country.
