ABSTRACT

98 Alu markers have been used extensively for population structure and evolution, both at global and regional level because it permits tracing of population ancestral heritages. The main objective of this study was to determine the Alu insertion variability of the Kelantan Malays sub-ethnic group using PV92, ACE, and TPA25 Alu loci. Buccal swab samples were obtained from 41 healthy and unrelated subjects of Kelantan Malays. All samples were deposited on FTA paper and directly amplified for PV92, ACE and TPA25. The amplified products were detected and separated via 2% gel electrophoresis. The frequencies of insertion for PV92, ACE, and TPA25 are 0.3415, 0.5121, and 0.4878, respectively. The F-statistics value for all three loci is 0.0229. Analysis of F-statistics had suggested that genetic differentiation existed within Kelantan Malays sub-ethnic group. The incorporation of the information obtained in this study will contribute to basic information regarding PV92, ACE, and TPA25 Alu insertion polymorphism variation in Kelantan Malays sub-ethnic group.
