ABSTRACT

As any health professional will tell a person, people who work are more likely to be healthy and people who are healthy are more likely to work. While much good work, both inside and outside government, is already going on to improve the health and wellbeing of working-age people, a strategy was required to bring together all the elements. So in October 2005 the Department for Work and Pensions launched a joint strategy with the Department of Health and the Health and Safety Commission/Executive to improve the health of working-age people. The strategy has been structured around three key themes: engaging stake-holders, improving working lives and the healthcare of working-age people. On the issue of improving working lives, one wants to promote the benefits of a healthy and supportive working environment to all organisations and employees.
