ABSTRACT

During my last year in my master’s program, the Assistant Vice President for Student Affairs said to me, “Kid, you are really bright but if you want to move up to be a Vice President or higher, you will need to get a doctorate.” I was 22 years old and did not have full-time work experience. However, I knew I did not want an employer to rule me out as a candidate because I did not have a degree. I knew that at some point, I would need to go back to school and get a doctorate, but I had a long road ahead to figure out what, where, when, and how.
