described. Approaches to groundwater remediation are described based on the current requirements of the United States Environmental ProtectionAgency (USEPA) for remediating sites that are regulated under the Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA), the Comprehensive Environmental Response, Compensation and Liability Act (CERCLA), or analogous state programs. Other requirements, such as local regulations (as described in Chapter 32) and the need to mitigate human health or other environmental concerns posed by the contaminated groundwatermay also define the needs of a groundwater remediation program.
