ABSTRACT

The aim of this chapter is to review recent developments in electrocatalyst technology for proton exchange membrane fuel cells (PEMFCs) fueled by hydrogen, impure hydrogen (reformate), and methanol. Efforts will be made to summarize catalyst activity and stability targets for the emerging commercial applications, review progress against these targets, and identify remaining challenges. The aim here is not to provide a comprehensive review of recent work, but rather to provide selected examples to illustrate the main developments.
