ABSTRACT
Today we take for granted that criminal indictments and charges are specific in nature, but that has not always been the case. During the Middle Ages and for some time thereafter it was not a requirement that a criminal allegation be specific as to time, place, and manner of the accused crime. Over the centuries, however, this has changed. Today we enjoy a system that requires, under the Constitution, that all criminal accusations be specific.
