ABSTRACT

Throughout recorded history, bird courtship behavior has been fascinating to humans. This may not be so surprising as, unlike those of many other animals, the displays of birds are performed mostly in the daytime, almost all of their display colors are within the human-visible spectrum, odors are rarely involved, and nearly all of the sounds that birds make are audible to humans. Moreover, many bird displays involve dancing, acrobatic movements and aerial maneuvers, all of which humans find enthralling.
