ABSTRACT

FIGURE 2 Stabilities of some Na-, K-, and Ca-substituted aluminosilicates compared to some unsubstituted aluminosilicates for which equilibrium solution ion activities are 10-3 M for Na+ and K+ and 10-2 . 5 M for Ca2+. (Adapted from Lindsay, 1979.)

The accuracy and reliability of the thermochemical data used to calculate solubility or equilibrium constants is critical to thermodynamic applica-:- tions. As such, compilations of thermodynamic data for use in describing soil solutions are under continual scrutiny and are subject to revision and updating as new measurements are made and discrepancies resolved. Wagman et al. (1982) give a thorough review of criteria for evaluating published data as well as an excellent compilation themselves. Other particularly good compilations are listed by Sposito (1986).
