ABSTRACT
Audit is defi ned as the systematic critical analysis of the quality of clinical care, ➤ including procedures used for diagnosis and treatment, the use of resources, the resulting outcome and quality of life for the patient. Th e purpose of audit should be educational and relevant to patient care. To perform a successful audit cycle a systematic approach is essential, involving ➤ the stages outlined in Figure 44.1.
