ABSTRACT

In wireless sensor network deployment, the routing protocols in the network layer are important because an efficient routing protocol can help to serve various applications and save energy. There is quite a significant amount of research work being recorded in the literature on harvesting or scavenging small-scale environmental energy for powering wireless sensor nodes. According to a study by the National Renewable Energy Laboratory, wind energy is the fastest-growing electricity-generating technology in the world. Wireless body area networks (WBANs) can be integrated into various human-related applications like medical healthcare services, assistance to people with disabilities and body interaction and entertainment to promote healthy lifestyles. Depending on the application and the operation of the sensor nodes in the WBAN, the power consumption varies in accordance with the different components of the sensor nodes. In S. Cheng and H. Huang, a low-power medium access control protocol has been developed to deal with the wasted energy due to inter-and intra-network collisions.
