ABSTRACT

ABSTRACT: Modern swimming pools and aqua parks present special challenges to air treatment techniques. Firstly, airborne microorganisms pose several health threats. Secondly, Disinfection By-Products (DBPs) are present, which might adversely influence bathers and pool personnel. The hazards of microorganisms and DBP’s are reviewed. Furthermore, the paper highlights the photodegradation of volatile chlorinated compounds and airborne microorganisms in water-based recreational facilities. Photoreactors and the operating conditions thereof are summarized from the point of view of scientific and practical applications.
