ABSTRACT

ABSTRACT Acute myeloid leukemia (AML) is a broad range of disorders that are all characterized by a block in the differentiation and by uncontrolled proliferation of hematopoietic progenitor cells. AML is the most frequent hematological malignancy in adults, with an annual incidence of three to four cases per 100,000 individuals. In approximately 20% of AML patients, the leukemia is secondary, arising from prior myelodysplastic syndrome or other hematological disorders, or is therapy-related
