In order to maintain leafhopper -borne plant viruses (hereafter the term “leafhoppers” includes “planthoppers” and “treehoppers” unless otherwise stated) in laboratories, the use of extragerm-free leafhoppers or cultured leafhopper cells is benefi cial.
