ABSTRACT

Dry eye is an increasingly popular syndrome in modern society, which affects a wide sector of the population and worsens with age. Dry eye diagnosis is very difcult to accomplish, specially because of its multifactorial nature. Thus, there are several clinical tests to measure the tear quality and quantity. Some of them assess the tear lm by evaluating the interference lipid pattern. This chapter describes an automatic image processing methodology to perform the analysis of the interference lipid pattern using the Tearscope plus and Doane’s interferometer as the instruments to acquire tear lm images.
