ABSTRACT

Continuously rising prices for oil and natural gas, inevitably reducing their inventories, serious environmental requirements for ambient environment negatively affect the competitiveness of the economy of many countries, including Ukraine, prompting experts and scientists from many countries to seek new and alternative sources their replacement. Intensively developed research and development aimed at exploiting and deeper processing of lowgrade, steam coal, mine methane, restored natural resources, waste products. This is especially significant for the direction of Ukraine, where the volume of such materials are not particularly limited, and in the next 150-200 years may provide a solution to energy problems. Particular attention in a number of these problems should be paid to the production of controlled (protective and restorative) atmospheres in metallurgy background continuously declining production volumes and increased cost of coking coal and natural gas. Designed to prevent contact of the metal with oxygen environment during its thermal processing, they are chosen depending on the requirements for the metal, the temperature, duration and nature of the thermal effects, and cost of gas generation units for it (Estrin 1973).
