ABSTRACT

Great progress has been made in the development of computing machines. Over the last 20–30 years, a design flow was developed that allows for the specification and implementation of circuits and systems that are composed of millions of components. To handle the steadily increasing complexity, several abstractions are thereby applied during the design process—represented, for example, by the specification level, the electronic system level (ESL), the register transfer level (RTL), and the gate level. Here, the design of circuits and systems based on conventional computation paradigms has been focused.
