ABSTRACT
This chapter starts with the success story of the antimicrobial drugs which transformed health care around the world but which are now faced by new strains of multidrug-resistant bacteria. It concludes with an account of the global consultation which led to the agreement of the Sustainable Development Goals in 2015.
