ABSTRACT

Geographic location of the patient may also influence expectations and preferences. It is not uncommon for people from various regions within the United States to actually want a taut or “pulled” appearance after a rhytidoplasty. Although this may sound unusual to the facial plastic surgeon, one possible explanation is that such an appearance may be a status symbol or reflection of social standing. In California, there exists such a dichotomy. Within the bay area of northern California, a natural appearance is emphasized, whereas in southern California, around the Los Angeles and Palm Springs areas, a more surgical appearance is the vogue.
