ABSTRACT

Human figure drawings have been used as an assessment tool since the early part of the twentieth century. The Goodenough Draw-A-Man Test attempted to measure intelligence and to quantify the data to yield an IQ score (Good-enough, 1926, 1928). However; studying individual drawings often uncovered clinical findings unrelated to the subject’s intellectual level. These observations led to the development of Machover’s Draw-A-Person Test that is used primarily as a projective technique rather than simply a means of evaluating intellectual capacity (Machover, 1949).
