ABSTRACT

The feud between rival loyalist paramilitary groups in Protestant Belfast is putting pressure on children to choose sides. Wrestling has become the latest playground craze. Twelve years old and pregnant: how does it really feel? Mobile phones: should they be banned at school? What is it like to be young and gay and living in Northern Ireland? Who are you going to ask about what is really going on in kids’ lives, if not children themselves? Children’s Express is charity with a two-fold mission: to give young people a voice, to get their views into arenas where they can actually influence policy-makers and opinion formers, so that adults will begin to believe that children can make a vital contribution to their lives. It operates like a news agency, delivering articles and broadcasts produced by teams of young people aged 8-18 to mainstream national, regional and local media.
