ABSTRACT
The Belgian artist, Magritte, intrigues us with his painting of a pipe that is inscribed ‘Ceci n'est pas une pipe’ (This is not a pipe). Naming it La trahison des images (The treachery of images) he calls to our attention the importance of not mistaking the image for the real thing.
