ABSTRACT

This chapter is intended for those who work within discipline-specific educational development. You might work within a department or faculty, full or part time (where you might also work as an academic part time), or perhaps as part of a co-ordinated team across a university or a national network such as the Learning and Teaching Support Network (LTSN) in the United Kingdom. You might also work within an educational development unit or directly for the director of learning in your institution, but have the remit to develop within particular disciplines rather than across the whole university. The trend to move towards working within disciplines is fairly recent, and brings with it a range of interesting opportunities and challenges. Here we will look at the various issues that might occur, and I will offer a way of looking at these to help you to select the most appropriate alternative for your own context.
