The law and policy of competition in Germany

With the enactment of the German Constitution in 1949, the concept of the social market economy became the basis for both competition and general economic policy. The most important piece of legislation for the protection of competition in Germany is the Gesetz gegen Wettbewerbsbeschränkungen, GWB (1957), hereafter referred to as the Cartel Law.
