Cultures of care in severe depression and dementia

The work of Tom Kitwood has become important in the field of dementia care. He addresses in particular cultures of care, their internalisation and the resultant unreflected enactments of others towards the person with dementia. CAT also addresses the internalisation of sociocultural activity. In this chapter I explore how Kitwood’s work can be used within CAT in the case of severe depression, and how CAT can be used within the context of dementia care.
