ABSTRACT
India is a vast country, with more than 1 billion people in a surface area of 3,288,000 square kilometres. Thus the population density is quite high at 336 people per square kilometre. Apart from the sheer size of its population, India is also characterized by great diversity in terms of religion, ethnicity, language, and culture.
