ABSTRACT
Much is being said about the achievements that South African women have gained since the new government came to power in 1994. There is an average of 30 per cent women at all government levels, a Commission for Gender Equality, a gender-sensitive constitution, an office on the status of women in the deputy-president’s office and a climate in which there seems to be a commitment to improving the quality of women’s lives.
