ABSTRACT

This conclusion presents some closing thoughts on the key concepts discussed in the proceeding chapters of this book. The book examines a number of conceptualizations, such adolescents' values, personal goals, future-planning, occupational explorations, decision making, identity commitments, and identity frames. It discusses the theoretical and methodological advances in European research on navigating through adolescence. Navigation through adolescence was described as a complex and multifaceted process which has a variety of consequences for a young person's present and future life; which is preceded by a number of antecedents in the adolescent's previous life. When adolescents were asked about the most important sources of future-related information, one of the most often mentioned source was home and parents. If adolescents are provided with interventions for their social skills and the strategies they deploy in interpersonal settings, the school environment is a natural choice.
