ABSTRACT

Johan Galtung and others have argued that reconciliation and peace have attracted much less attention from the media than war and conflict.2 Taking the Moluccan society’s transition from conflict to peace, this chapter discusses how media in Indonesia can contribute both to the fragmentation and the unification of society. It illustrates how the society and the media are interdependent and provides a comprehensive analysis of these processes based on a context-oriented, integrative and agency-oriented approach to media studies.
